Who we are!

The City of Minneola Code Enforcement Department is responsible for preserving the quality of life and value of both public and private properties. Our actions serve as a catalyst in preserving a high standard of living by mitigating conditions which may threaten lives, health, safety and general welfare of the residents of this city. The Code Enforcement Department provides a comprehensive inspection system to respond to citizen complaints and enforce minimum standards ordinance, zoning, land development and sign regulations. Code Enforcement works closely with Planning & Zoning Department and the City Clerk’s Office to enforce business and occupational licenses within the city.

FAQ’s

Can I remain anonymous when reporting a code violation?

Yes, it is not the policy of the city to require any personal information when registering a complaint. Remember that all information you choose to provide to the city including names, phone numbers and email addresses are subject to public record laws of Florida.

Why does it take so long to resolve a code violation?

Upon receiving a complaint our officers will normally respond within 48 hours. Code Enforcement by law is not a speedy process and the timeframe to correct violations can vary. Many times the owner of the property, found to be in violation, will receive a written notice or a verbal warning. If the violation is not corrected within the allocated time the officer will issue a formal notice and the case may then be referred to be heard in front of the Code Enforcement Board for further action.

What percentage of code violations are bought into compliance?

Proudly the Code Enforcement Department has 99 % rate of compliance.

This is a result of the efforts put forth by many others within different departments of the city, and most importantly the residents of Minneola as a whole.

The appointed seven-member Code Enforcement Board hears and decides violations presented by the City’s Code Enforcement Officers.  On average they hear cases involving junk vehicles, overgrown properties, outside storage of household furniture and appliances, land use violations, illegal signs, abandoned, unsecured structures, accumulations of yard trash and debris as well as other city code violations.  Voluntary compliance is achieved in 99% of these cases.

The City of Minneola is looking for interested citizens to get involved as volunteers with the City's Code Enforcement Board. There are currently two vacancies to be filled as well as two alternate positions. If you are interested in becoming involved within your community and would like to be considered for appointment to the Code Enforcement Board, please contact Ramon A. Flores at 352-394-3598 ext. 242.

The Code Enforcement Board is a quasi-judicial board, comprised of residents of the community appointed by the City Council to serve in the capacity of a board member. Board members will meet as needed the third (3er) Monday of the month to hear cases regarding violations of City ordinances and the City's land development code. Cases are presented by the Code Enforcement staff and the board will hear evidence and testimony to render a decision on cases.

The City of Minneola Code Enforcement Board hearings are open to the public. They are held when needed at City Hall, 800 N Hwy 27. Persons with disabilities needing assistance to participate in any of these proceedings should contact the City of Minneola at (352) 394-3598 at least 48 hours before the date of the scheduled hearing.

To report a possible code violation in your neighborhood you can call 394-3598 or email it to Ramon A. Flores, rflores@minneola.us. Complaints can remain anonymous at the request of the caller.  You may contact us at the above e-mail address if you are interested in volunteering to serve on the Code Enforcement Board.
