A program of the Finance Department, the Utility Billing Department provides utility customers with the following:

·          timely notification of monthly consumption results through a computerized billing system

·          initiating and terminating customer services, as needed

·          providing account information and solutions to its customers

·          processing cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express payments

Utility Payments on Line

For billing, service activation, deactivation, or other customer service related inquiries, please call the Utility Billing Department at 352-394-3598, ext. 210.

Additionally, the Department administers and oversees the City’s residential garbage and recycling services provided by a private provider under a franchise agreement.  The Department also administers the monthly stormwater customer charge.

Meter reading is a function of the Utility Billing Department.  Two meter readers read approximately 3800 meters each month.  They are responsible for turning on new service, locking off service for nonpayment, reinstating service and turning off service when cancelled.   A meter reader will do a courtesy reread for a suspected high consumption upon request.   Meter readers install new residential water meters as well as repair or replace existing meters.

In 2004, the Utility Billing Department relocated from 300 West Pearl Street to its current facility at 800 North Highway 27.  This  handicap accessible facility offers customers ample available parking, a convenient drive-through after hours drop box in the front parking lot of the building and a walk-up drop box at the back entrance to the utility office.
