Schoolhouse Library Book Review
Louise Penny Mysteries
If you have not yet discovered the books of award-winning mystery writer, Louise Penny, you are in for a literary treat.
Ms. Penny is a Canadian author who places her main character, Chief Inspector Armond Gamache in the Canadian province of Quebec.
The nine books in the series, thus far, can be read as stand-alone novels, but as characters and plots develop, they are better enjoyed when read in order.
“Still Life”, the first in the series, introduces Armond Gamache and his team of investigators who are called to a rural village south of Montreal where a suspicious death has occurred. While the book may tempt one to stay up late at night to finish, one also wants to savor every word.
Ms. Penny’s website states: “My books are about terror. The brooding terror curled deep down inside us. But more than that, more than murder, more than all the rancid emotions and actions, my books are about goodness. And kindness. About choices. About friendship and belonging. And love. Enduring love. If you take only one thing away from any of my books, I’d like it to be this: Goodness exists.”
Readers mostly discover Ms. Penny through personal recommendations. Her books are available through the Lake County Library System in large print, paperback, CD sound recording, ebook and audio ebook as well as traditional hardcover format.
