Now is the perfect time to clean out your garage and junk drawers and properly dispose of unwanted house paint, lawn chemicals, motor oil, rechargeable batteries, and fluorescent bulbs. Although these things cannot be placed in your regular household trash, Lake County provides proper disposal services of these hazardous waste items to residents so the chemicals don't end up in our lakes, streams, and freshwater aquifers.

The Lake County Solid Waste Division is encouraging Lake County residents to dispose of unwanted household hazardous materials in compliance with D.E.P. guidelines in a safe and environmentally conscious way at an upcoming collection event from 9 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Minneola City Hall. This event is open to Lake County residents only.

Excessive amounts of hazardous materials will not be accepted due to limited space in the mobile unit. If residents have large quantities of items for disposal, a special drop-off day will be scheduled at the Central Solid Waste Facility, located at 13130 County Landfill Road, off of C.R. 561 in Astatula/Tavares. To schedule a drop-off day, call (352) 343-3776.
